Junior Chess Schedule 2002/2003

Unless otherwise noted, the following tournaments are OPEN to all Junior players at all playing levels. Some events qualify the winner(s) to go on to compete at Provincial or National Championships.

SITES:	Vancouver	Vancouver Bridge Centre (2776 East Broadway at Kaslo St.)
	BCIT	BCIT Student Association Campus Centre (3700 Willingdon Avenue, Burnaby)
		(enter at traffic light between Canada Way and Sanderson)

NOTE: While CFC Membership is no longer required at Junior (i.e. under 20 years) events, it is necessary at any other kind of rated tournament (please see below for details).

Players under the age of 18 (as of Jan. 1/2003) who wish to participate in CFC-rated events other than Junior-only tournaments may purchase a membership on-site, either of:
1. a Participating Junior Membership ($13 annually). This ensures that the member's name and rating appear on the list(s)on the CFC web site (in addition to their inevitable inclusion in crosstables), and entitles him/her to members' discounts on books and equipment; or
2. a Full Junior Membership ($25 annually); in addition to the above also ensures the arrival approximately every 2 months of the worthwhile En Passant magazine on one's doorstep.
CFC Membership for players 18 years and older is $45/year and includes En Passant and discounts.

Apr. 13/03 (Sunday)	Bridge Centre	Grand Prix # 7 Registration: 9:30 - 9:50 a.m.; Entry Fee: $12; Format: 4-player quads (regular rated) or 5-round Swiss (active rated)
Apr. 19/03 (Saturday)	BCIT	B.C. Provincial Chess Challenge Finals (invitational); Players must qualify from their respective regions; 12 Sections by Grade, the winner in each grade invited to the Canadian Chess Challenge
May 3-4/03	BCIT	B.C. Provincial Finals CYCC
May 25/03 (Sunday)	Bridge Centre	Grand Prix # 8 Registration: 9:30 - 9:50 a.m.; Entry Fee: $12; Format: 4-player quads (regular rated) or 5-round Swiss (active rated)
June/03 (Sunday)	Bridge Centre	Year-End Event, including prize-giving ceremony for the Grand Prix and party: doors open at 9:30 am, register before 10 am, further details t.b.a.
